The Seventh-day Adventist Church emerged during the Second Great Awakening of the 1840s in the United States. The church pioneers were members of several other religious organizations such as the Methodist, Presbyterian, and Baptist churches. The SDA church currently has approximately 15 million members spread over 200 countries around the globe. In fact, the Adventist Church is currently the second largest private school system in the world behind the Catholic educational system. The church is also present in the form of hospitals and clinics around the globe. Members of the Adventist church abstain from smoking and drinking and focus on maintaining a close bond with God through a genuine relationship with Jesus. In a recent study, the Adventist community found in Loma Linda, CA. was identified as a \u201cblue zone\u201d or \u201clongevity oasis\u201d where the residents tend to not only live longer lives but are also happier and healthier too. <\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_tab][et_pb_tab title=”Adventist’s Today” disabled=”off”]<\/p>\n Currently, the Seventh-day Adventist Church as over 15 million members worldwide in over 200 countries. The SDA church has approximately 1.5 million students enrolled in the over 7,200 schools, 168 hospitals, almost 450 clinics, 138 nursing homes, and 34 orphanages. In addition, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), a disaster relief organization, funds over 2,400 projects in 112 countries. \u00a0 What does the name \u201cSeventh-day Adventist\u201d refer to? \u00a0The name refers to two core beliefs of the church. First, in accordance to God\u2019s statues found specifically in the fourth commandment (Exodus 20:8-11), Adventists worship on Saturday, the 7th day of the week. Second, the term \u201cAdventist\u201d is based on the premise that Jesus promised to return to earth to gather His people.
